After a long and hard discussion process we made a pre-selection of all the submitted treatments…

Now, it’s up to the independent jury to have their say and pick their list of favorite 6. And so can you! Log on to the forum, read the selected treatments and make your pick here until the 16th of December, 2PM!

All the treatments have been uploaded to the forum and discussed online. Before the year is over, the BATESIAN Team will retreat to a quiet place in Austria and – considering the opinions of the external jury and the online community – decide on which treatments will be selected for the film.

The Details:

Round 1: We will upload all the treatments to the forum and start with the open discussion online. Aside from the community’s comments, each treatment will receive written feedback from the BATESIAN Team.

Round 2: We will then make a pre-selection of the treatments and choose about 20-25 treatments that we think should be considered further. In this internal selection process, we will use the criteria discussed in the forum to help us make a decision. The remaining treatments will remain online but will be marked as rejected.

Appeal: The authors of treatments that have been rejected can appeal against our decision. Submitters can use this chance to clarify things if they think we misunderstood something or add detail where it might have been missing. Together with the online community we will decide if these treatments should get a second chance.

Round 3: The community and the BATESIAN Team will discuss the pre-selected treatments online together. We will use the criteria as points of reference for structuring the discussion, but there will be no rating. Finally, every member of this forum can post their top 5 treatments (in no particular order). By counting which treatments got selected most often, we will have a ranking of the online community’s favorite treatments.

At the same time, the external jury will read and select the pre-selected treatments and post their feedback in the forum.

The BATESIAN Team will look at the authors’ statements, thoughts on collaboration and conduct interviews with everyone who has been pre-selected.

Decision: We will make the final decision by considering all the inputs: the opinions and ranking of the community, the expert advice from the external jury and our own opinion after having read the treatments and looked at the authors.

Criteria: To help everyone involved in their decision making process, we have established a set of criteria that reflects which aspects of a treatment we find particularly important. These criteria (and what they mean) were discussed in detail in this forum topic.

The two most important, decisive criteria are:
originality
dramaturgy

Additional criteria which can be a bonus are:
the ending
characters
visualisation
social, economic, technological, philosophical and political context / developments in the “World of BATESIAN”
